
The Dark Knight was the sequel to the 2005 film Batman Begins. This film was co-written and directed by Christopher Nolan who had directed the first film also. This is a superhero film where the hero saves the city once again in the face of terrors like the Joker, Sal Maroni and Chechen. The Dark Knight saves Gotham city once again in the face of adverse terror. So what’s new in this superhero movie? Undoubtedly superb special effects, the plot line and the acting talents of Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger.
The plot unfolds with Gotham city once again in the ravages of terror unfolded by the looting of the mob bank by the Joker. Together with Lieutenant James Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman aka Bruce Wayne sets out to capture the Joker and remove crime from the city. In the process, he encounters the mob. Dent becomes mad when his girlfriend and Bruce’s childhood friend, Rachel is murdered.
He decides to punish the corrupted police officials. He begins to turn violent. He decides the fate of Gordon’s son, himself and Batman by coin tosses.He becomes the Two-Face. He shoots Batman. They both fall. Dent dies. The Dark Knight asks Gordon to charge Batman responsible for the crimes committed by Dent otherwise the morale of the city would suffer. A warrant for Batman is issued.
Christian Bale had trained himself in the Keysi fighting method for this role. But mention must be made of the late Heath Ledger. This was Ledger’s last film. Ledger shut himself up in a room for one month to study the role of the Joker. He even directed the videos the Joker sent as warnings. Nolan did not edit the scenes acted in by Ledger because he wanted to keep the authenticity of the role. The Dark Knight promises to be a treat to viewers.
